Waddle your way around a chilly 5k

With the summer holidays over and the weather taking an autumnal turn, there’s no better time to start planning for... Christmas!

One local charity is already looking ahead to its festive fundraising and has today released tickets to take part in its new event - The Big Penguin Challenge.

Taking place at Wellington Country Park, the event, sponsored by scientific and medical refrigeration experts Labcold, takes place on Saturday 9 November. It features a giant obstacle course that participants will tackle as they waddle their way around the 5km estate course dressed as penguins. Obstacles will include giant slides, inflatable obstacles and foam pits to slip, slide, waddle or fly over.

All this fun has a serious side to it as everyone taking part will be raising money for Hampshire Hospitals Charity, a local charity which is working to create a happier, healthier Hampshire by funding projects that support outstanding patient care and staff wellbeing across hospitals in Basingstoke, Winchester and Andover.

Sabrina Marsden, Fundraising Manager at Hampshire Hospitals Charity said; “As with all penguins, this event is so much better when taking part in pairs or as a colony so grab your partners, friends or colleagues and form a team. It will take around an hour to complete the course and promises to be a lot of fun as everyone navigates our obstacle course dressed as a penguin!”

Suzanne Clubley, Managing Director at Labcold said; “We are thrilled to sponsor our local hospitals charity and support The Big Penguin Challenge, as we recognise the incredible support they provide to our local hospitals and those who deliver important healthcare to our team, families, friends and the entire community. At Labcold, people are at the heart of everything we do, and supporting such a worthy cause aligns perfectly with our commitment to making a positive impact where it matters most. We can’t wait to welcome everyone on the start line!”

Tickets for the event are now on sale and cost £35 each with penguin onesies priced at £15 each. The challenge is open to all abilities, however, this event is only suitable for those over the age of 18.
