Penguins flock to take part in charity obstacle challenge

It was a sight not seen in the Hampshire countryside before - penguins gathering in a local country park, all scrambling over giant obstacles.

But fear not, these weren’t lost birds, but charity supporters dressed as penguins tackling The Big Penguin Challenge 5km inflatable obstacle course, all in aid of Hampshire Hospitals Charity.

The event took place on Saturday morning and local people came dressed in their penguin onesies ready to take on the course packed with giant slides, foam pits and more.

Sabrina Marsden, Fundraising Manager at Hampshire Hospitals Charity, said: “It’s been the most amazing day. Seeing all these people dressed as penguins is quite the sight but knowing that they’re all doing it to support our work in local hospitals is incredibly heartwarming. Sponsorship is still coming in but, already, they’ve raised over £12,000 to help provide support and equipment to those in our hospitals in Basingstoke, Winchester and Andover.”

Each person taking part received a medal and goodie bag once they crossed the finish line to commemorate their participation and thank them for their support.

The event was sponsored by scientific and medical refrigeration experts Labcold. Suzanne Clubley, Manging Director at Labcold, said: “Everyone at Labcold is extremely proud to have sponsored and supported this amazing event. As the UK's largest medical refrigeration supplier, people and patient care are at the heart of everything we do. It was fantastic to see hundreds of people dressed as penguins running and navigating the obstacle course—it was great fun for all involved! Most importantly, we’ve raised vital funds for Hampshire Hospitals Charity, which does incredible work across our local hospitals.”
