Equipment to support children receiving palliative care
Being able to offer our patients choice in where they die is incredibly important, but the equipment needed to support children and young people to die at home, in familiar surroundings, is often above the scope of the trust’s statutory funding.
Charitable funding raised through Hampshire Hospitals Charity has recently helped secure a range of equipment that will now be able to help families who wish for their child to spend their last days at home.
Equipment purchased includes a CuddleCot system, a unique cooling device designed to provide grieving parents with the invaluable gift of time with their baby after loss, and a CuddleBlanket which allows a child to remain at home for a period of time without having to go directly to a bereavement suite or funeral directors, giving time for the family to process what’s happening and carry out their wishes.
Alongside this specialist equipment, the charity has also purchased memory making equipment, including handprint kits and ink pads to enable parents to make precious keepsakes for them to cherish.
